Why use a Commercial Finance Broker ?

The credit crunch started to take effect in the last quarter of 2007 and we have seen banks looking to charge a higher margin over base rate, charge bigger fees, take more security, lend a lower percantage or generally not wish to lend in a certian sector at all. Thankfully prespective borrowers have been waking up to the idea of choice and making greater use of Commercial Finance Brokers. In the UK some 20 % of commercial lending is sourced via brokers, in the US it is around 80% secured via brokers.

Many people who need finance, talk to their existing high street bank, some may decide to talk to a second or even third bank. Aside from the amount of time involved how can you be sure you are getting the best deal. The bank or manager may not specialise in your chosen business, they may be more interested in promoting their bank’s other products and services than helping you get the best finance package.

Your current bank may offer you the finance you require but knowing you will not be shopping around the market they are under little pressure to offer you the most competitive deal available. They may argue your venture is too speculative or you have insufficient security or experience.

A good Commercial Finance Broker will know what banks have an appetite for what sector and will know the business bank managers who have a "can do and will do" attitude. We all have to balance risk and reward and be respsonsible but sometimes lending proposals get declined because they were poorly presented and some important details are left out. A good broker will work with you and ensure the proposal is presented in the best possible light to secure the best deal available.

A Professional Finance Broker will work independently and with access to hundreds of lenders, many who are not on the High Street, the Finance Broker can use their industry experience and contacts to help you secure the best deal.

Lower interest rates are only part of the equation, what about the level of funding, speed, level of service, the term of the loan, the security required.

It also Pays to review?

It is good business practice to review your existing finance arrangements and ensure you are getting a competitive deal. When was the last time your bank manager came out for an annual review and offered to cut the rate on our business loan? On a loan of say £250,000 on a capital and interest basis over a 20 year term, a reduction of 1% on the rate could save nearly £2,000 per year. Worth 30 minutes of your time talking to us.

Many people review their residential mortgage every few years but rarely do we review anything else. Most businesses in the UK have some form of finance in place, this may include: a commercial mortgage, development capital, leasing for vehicles or plant and machinery, debt financing, loans or overdrafts but rarely are any of these reviewed. Many business owners do not want to review their lending because they believe they will have to move their business bank account and this is deemed to involve lots of time and grief. You can keep you banking arrangements where they are and simply review the loans. There are many lenders in the commercial market who are not interested in taking on your business banking and are happy to simply help you with the finance. Though we may well be able to save you money on your current lending and get you a year or two's free banking as well.
